JVA 6th graders are scheduled to attend Outdoor Lab school at Mt. Evans September 30 - October 4th. JVA joins Deane Elementary and their 6th grade students each year. The trip to OELS has been an integral part of the 6th grade District curriculum since 1961. Your students will be accompanied by Jeffco Virtual and Deane staff. High school leaders from our high school will also spend the week with the students.
What is Outdoor Lab?
The Outdoor Lab Schools have been enriching the lives of 6th grade and high school students in Jefferson County for more than 50 years. With more than 6,000 students served each year and well over 350,000 alumni the 58 year old program, Outdoor Lab is the longest continually running outdoor education program in the western United States. Students are immersed in an outdoor academic setting for five days where they spend their time learning about themselves and how they fit into the world around them.
What is Taught at Outdoor Lab?
Mount Evans and Windy Peak Outdoor Lab Schools give students the opportunity to explore and experience subjects such as earth science, wildlife biology, astronomy, and forestry in a unique mountain setting. By engaging the students in problem solving, team building, decision-making and social interaction, the Outdoor Lab program helps to prepare Jeffco students for successful futures. For a detailed look at the curriculum we teach, please view the following field guides: Biosphere | Archery (Force & Motion) | Geosphere | Hydrosphere
